New website coming soon! Fear not...
Friday, January 11, 2002
The phrase "hot and bothered" has always meant "annoyed" to me. For some reason, people have been using it to mean "horny". I think this is a totally incorect usage. Do you agree? I fear that this phrase is going to disintegrate into the american lexicon in much the same way that "For all intents and purposes" has degraded into "for all intensive purposes". uggg... I am cringing.

A fine little trip to Milwaukee... it was really really cold. Here's what downtown looked like, that's the frozen river:

But, if that was cold, then this car was certainly hot, in fact more than hot. Below is the result of an arson fire that took place in a garage in the alley behind Tom's apartment. Click the car for the full photo.

This morning it was so cold, that when a bus spewed exhaust on me, my first thought was not "*cough* ahhh....cursed exhaust". Rather, my first thought was "ooooh, that's warm!"...

Moe, the new office goldfish was found dead this morning. It's a terrible tragedy, we don't know what we did wrong! He was only with us for two days, then perished. Tis a sad day.

Those machines were at it again at 8am this morning. I went and had a cup of coffee and just watched them...it was really quite amusing, a very crude use of very advanced machines. The backhoe was just banging it's shovel against the ground. Just banging and banging and banging, hoping to eventually create enough of a hole so that it sould pry up some pavement. Then another machine grabed a hold of the giant boulder (mentioned below), and brought it to the backhoe, which then banged on the boulder until it broke apart. The teamsters type guys were all just sitting there watching the machines beat up on the boulder. Fabulous entertainment.

I am a very lazy blogger... i don't know how some people have something to say every day.. I guess I ought to... well I came up with a great short movie idea last night while on the way to see Robin Williams perform, which was, by the way excellent, anywhow - the bus was giving free rides because something was wrong with the machine that takes your money, and everyone who got on reacted in a unique way when the bus driver said..."Free ride tonight! Don't pay!"... the reactions ranged from total ecstasy to confusion. So I figure: get on the bus, put $100 into the machine, then film people as they come on, and you say "free ride today!!!" Then collect all of the recations and make a documentary about it.

Rain, rain, rain, rain... it's amazing how rain stunts one's productivity. Today I have watched two movies, and that is all. In theory, I should be working on some projects, but I really can't be bothered with it. Going to see Robin WIlliams tonight however which should be quite entertaining...

I just saw the funniest thing :: I was on a plane landing in Milwaukee, and intently looking out the window, as I usually do, I was a large warehouse. It's not uncommon for large warehouses near airports to have the company name or some sort of advertisement painted on the roof, specifically to cater to people looking out the windows of airplanes. Anyhow, some jokester had painted in huge yellow letters 'Welcome to Cleveland'.
Hilarious. I imagined someone panicking and looking around...and hitting the flight attendant button. "Cleveland?? Is this Cleveland?? I'm on the wrong plane!!" As long as the pilots don't get confused I'll continue to chuckle.

So this is what was making all that racket today and yesterday...

In addition to causing incredibly loud and violent banging, this machine pulled an enormous boulder out of a hole in the middle of the street. It is now sitting in front of my house like a trophy.
As a bonus today, here's tonight's sunset from Ocean Beach. Click the little picture for a big one!

I watched the Leonids from the top of Mt. Tam last night till around 3am. We sat in the amphitheatre which looks east right into the path of the meteors. It wasn't quite as outrageous and had been predicted, but still far more meteors than I've ever seen, one after another, really quite fantastic! I was falling asleap toward the end though, and my back is killing me from lying on the rocks.

The entire neighborhood is literally shaking to pieces due to the antics of a construction crew in the street. It feels like a strong earthquake every few seconds.

Eeee gads, what a Monday... one of the more brain damaging in recent memory... no matter, had a fantastic time in LA this weekend with Brian and Dave, along with all the old friends I caught up with, namely Bill, Dave H, and Jason...
As always, we took a ton of photos. Here are a few of the best (click a photo for the larger version):
Brian and I relaxing at LAX in the luxurious Thrifty rent-a-car limo-van. No, I don't know what Brian is doing with his hand.
Dave ponders his position, cruising out of LAX.
Me, driving somewhere in Los Angeles.
Dave and the Glockmaster.
Brian's rearview mirror shot on Sunset across the street from the Cat n' Fiddle in Hollywood.
LA Palms.
Side mirror shot of Dave and Brian, somewhere in South-central, near the Watts Towers. (coolest photo of the trip!)
Brian tries to photograph an airplane flying over our heads just outside LAX, but it was a bit too fast.
Sunset at the Getty.
Brian ponders the sunset.
Dave ponders the sunset.
Nick ponders the sunset.
Dusk over century city.
Many more photos here. Oh yes, and there are some rather amusing videos too!
A long video cruising through Beverly Hills
The Cameron Diaz Debate (ask Dave or Brian why this is funny)
And the best video - the classical classic ride through West Hollywood.

Messing around with my camera the other night managed to yield a pretty cool picture of the sky:

Of course, the moon wasn't actually full, it just wound up looking that way. If I had a tripod it would probably have come out better. So... Brian and Dave and I are off to LA tommorow, should be a hell of a good time, many photos to be taken of course, and hopfully much commentary. Until then, ciao!

I have been playing with this "transparent" map of NYC for a while today - it's very cool.
