Microsoft tries to help #1

Category: Internet

THE INTERNET: Amidst a fit of optimism, I was worried I wouldn't be able to find anything stupid to write about this week, and then I remembered the bottomless pit of annoyance that Microsoft can produce.

This screen appears when you mis-type a URL in Internet Explorer. In the good old days, you just got an error message and you could still see what you typed in the URL bar. This was just fine, because invariably you were perfectly aware of what you did wrong and would simply amend the mistake in a milli-second and be on your way. But NO! Microsoft wants to help you. Now, except in the 1% of instances where IE guesses right, you have to completely retype everything. I'm very close to switching to Netscape.
