Backwards Energy Thinking

Category: Environment

Milwaukee: Has the brain really drained out of Wisconsin? Two incredibly myopic proposals are on the table in the Milwaukee area concerning electric generation and water use.

Firtsly, Wisconsin Energy is on the verge of constructing a new Coal Fired Plant in the southern suburbs. That's right - Coal. As in stone-age fossil fuel, cough cough.

Second, Waukesha county, rapidly being devoured by the worst of suburban sprawl is trying to get the right to pump water from Lake Michigan outside the great lakes basin (protected by international treaty) to essentially water lawns.

The reason both these proposals fall squarely on the side of stupidity is that if people and governments simply thought about efficiency instead of appetite, neither would be needed.

Nick, coal is the wave of the future, bro. New coal plants are coming online all the time as old seams become viable again and natural gas is seen as too volatile, and nukes are politically unpalatable.

You know, I pop around to these different blogs thinking I have some unique readership pattern only to find praktike commenting on all of 'em.

But he's right coal is coming on quick. The pollution levels are lower... still not the greatest, though.

And as for watering their lawns... I think that if someone is using a sprinkler for something less beneficial than at least a vegetable garden then they should be beaten with said sprinkler.
