The High Line Project

Category: Urban Planning

New York: This could be the most significant Rails to Trails project ever, and one of the nicest potential developments in New York history.

Basically, the High Line is an abandoned railway elevated over part of Manhattan. The plan is to rehab it and use it as a pedestrian/cycling route, free from the interference of automobile traffic, and at least in part sprinkled with greenery. Unfortunately, there is a group of property owners hell bent on demolishing the structure, so the success of the project is not sealed. Have a look at the links below for more information.

Comments:

To see a structure with so much potential be demolished would be such a shame. New York, as well as many other cities in the United States are thriving for green space. NY has Central Park, Boston has the Commons, but they both need more. Why not create a beautiful area where people can walk, talk, relax, view art work etc above the chaos that is happening below them?
