More Intelligent Parking Lot Design
Category: Urban Planning

Sedona, AZ: It's a stretch to say any parking lot will ever be "beautiful", but there are a lot of really easy ways to make them better. In Sedona Arizona, this otherwise ordinary parking lot (wisely hidden behind a row of buildings) has had its walls painted a similar color to the beautiful red rocks for which Sedona is famous.
It's a minor cosmetic step, but it makes a world of difference. The planters and the gate (though a bit cheesy) help too.

Isn't just about everything in Sedona this color though?
Any amount of painting won't make that park lot pretty when its full of the SUV's Arizonans love to drive. When I was in AZ last July visiting my mom, I too thought that much of the design for parking lots and roads was tasteful, but didn't make up for the sprawl and congestion.
