Shipping Container Building

Category: Architecture

Los Angeles: Shipping containers are finding new life as elements in building construction. This New York Times article is particularly inspiring.

Readily available (even on EBay) for a few thousand bucks, recycled containers are incredibly durable, waterproof, and with a good architecht at the helm, remarkably attractive.

Comments:

this is sooo cool. I have long had a dream to build an urban trailer park out of shipping containers. This chick is making things happen, things that I dig very much.

I have seen field military bases made out of these in Kosovo. There are different functional modules (dorm, single room, toilet, storage, corridor) and they out them together like a set of giant Lego bricks.

We have developed a series of attractive modernist / minimalist homes using selected high quality shipping containers.

The designs offered can be varied to accommodate individual tastes.

I need a set of plans or fabrication cut sheet for a 20' and 40'shipping container. My municipality requires a permit to set up permanent storage.
