Car Alarms

Category: Cars

Your City: There are few inventions I can think of that do less good than car alarms. In fact, they clearly do vastly more harm than good, ripping apart the fabric of the urban night with painfully horrendous shrieking that can yank you from a peaceful slumber and set your brain on fire in milliseconds flat. When was the last time you heard a car alarm and called the police? Or even thought there might be a thief at work? I'm told, in fact, that mobs have gathered in New York on occasion and attacked the vehicles of persistent offenders. Now that's ineffective crime prevention.

If people really must have security beyond the classic "club", there are alternatives such as secret codes and immobilizers. If I ever buy a car, I'll pay extra not to have an alarm!

Car alarms that just make a noise without remotely notifying security or something have now been banned on new cars in Australia as a public nuisance.
