San Francsico: At long last, the Octavia Boulevard project is nearing completion, and they've got a great website up to prove it. For those outside San Francisco - there was once a freeway that sliced through the Hayes Valley neighborhood, reducing it to a trash strewn, and less than desireablt part of town. With the freeway's demolition, the neighborhood surged back to life (though not without some of the controversy that comes with gentrification).
Octavia Boulevard, though far from perfect in my opinion, will create a useful artery for car drivers without wrecking the neighborhood, plus provide the impetus for a great deal of redevelopment along the former corridor.

The removal of the ELEVATED Central Freeway is good.
Failing to build and extend a TUNNELED Central Freeway is sticking one's collective head in the sand.
