South Capitol Street, DC
Category: Urban Planning
Washington: The National Capital Planning Commission has unveiled what looks like a fabulous new vision for the neglected area of DC south of the capitol. In addition to a new baseball stadium, the plan calls for extensive streescaping on both sides of the Potomac, high density development, and a whole bunch of nice looking parkland. "Potomac Avenue would be reestablished as a
waterfront roadway with an oval rotary intersection
providing a memorial opportunity."
Does not sound too promising; a roundabout with a monument on it. You've never been to Marble Arch, then?
Also, looking at the cross section for the street, I count 9 lanes of motor traffic. This is hardly cutting edge people orientated urban design.
