Downtown Brookly Plan

Category: Urban Planning

blynnew.jpgNew York: Downtown Brooklyn's impending rennesance seems to have reached critical mass. The city has released a massive 10 year plan calling for as many as 15 towers and 3,000 new housing units in the immediate area. It's a potentially good plan because it will bring back a neglected and highly urban area with excellent public transportation (more subway lines converging than anywhere in Manhattan), and, compete effectively with suburban offices that have been gaining ground for years.

Granted, the problem of gentrification and displacement will undoubtedly rear its head, but with 10 years to pull this plan together, one hopes that things will work out well.
