Transit Village Bill

Category: Urban Planning

transitvill.jpgSacramento: I'm starting to like Gov. Schwarzenegger more and more. He's just signed a bill that will make "transit village" development far easier and more prevelant by removing some bureaucratic obstacles that had hindered such development in the past.

Transit Villages are neighborhoods of homes and shops built densely enough that life without a car is feasable and which are built near a station on some kind of transit line, making commuting into the larger metro area easy and car-free.

Although many miles of new transit lines have been constructed in California recently, most of the stops are in car-oriented neighborhoods, forcing people to drive to the station. Hopefully, this legislation will start to change that.

if youre going to link articles, it would be gret if you would just add them to you site as the newspapers online often take them down or you have to log in to access old articles

keep up the good work
