Metra Rail to Milwaukee

Category: Transit

Milwaukee: Looks like Chicago's Metra-rail commuter trains will finally be extended to Milwaukee. [article here] there's a ridiculous amount of bureaucracy involved so who knows when it will actually happen, but it's a major advancement toward both regional cooperation and transportation in the area.

At 2.5 hours, the system is not intended to be a way to get between Milwaukee and Chicago, rather it becomes essentially Milwaukee's own local commuter system that just happens to be connected to Chicago's.

Here is the transit study for the metra rail from Milwaukee to Chicago via Kenosha.

It is planned to start service in 2009.

I thought it was being planned for late 2004?

I think this would be a wonderful thing if there was commuter rail service between Milwaukee and Chicago. There are many people who drive to Northern Illinois for work who would be willing to commute by train (like me - my place of work will pay up to $100 a month to do so). The only reason I don't is because the trains running from the North Chicago to Kenosha are few and far between and not convenient for my work schedule. By increasing the trains and the distance traveled would provide additional choices for future customers!!
