Greening the Fleet

Category: Cars , Environment , Urban Planning

Boston: The state of Massachusetts has proposed cutting its fleet of SUVs in favor of more environmentally responsible (and cheaper) vehicles. They also propose scrapping some vehicles altogether in favor of using a car sharing scheme known as 'zipcar'.

In addition to saving money, converting to a 'greener' fleet makes a powerful statement in general, and encourages the production and improvement of more efficient vehicles. The car sharing idea is particularly novel, and it would be great to see a large organization, such as government, adopting it.

Still, I'll feel sorry if they all wind up driving Tauruses!

Other initiatives: [Berkeley][Madison][Denver] and more... (thx Beth)
